Envirowatts Program
Enviro Watts currently uses 13 plants and one is under construction. Each plant provides power to approximately 3,500 homes daily.
The closest plant to us is the Oak Ridge facility in Logansport. The landfill produces methane gas as the waste decays. The methane gas is contained in underground wells called gas extraction wells. The number of these wells varies from landfill to landfill depending on the amount of waste housed at the site. The gas is then piped directly to the on-site electricity generating engine and converted to electricity through the use of generators. This electricity is then sent over the power grid to provide electricity to homes and businesses.
You can participate in this program for an additional penny per kilowatt hour up to a maximum of $5.00 each month. By joining the program, you are showing your support of green power and helping use landfill waste to produce electricity.
